Job Searching in 2025: Be Ready; Be Real; Be Strategic

Let’s be honest; job hunting right now feels like a rollercoaster. The market is shifting; competition is fierce; and you're often left wondering if anyone even saw your application.

But here's the thing: good jobs are out there. You just need to approach the search with the right tools, mindset, and a little behind-the-scenes knowledge.

As someone who’s been deeply involved in hiring; from screening to offers, I’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and what makes candidates stand out for the right reasons. Here are my best tips to help you stay ready; stay real; and stay strategic:

Treat Unknown Callers Like Opportunity Knocking

That random number might be spam; or it might be your future boss. Always answer with a professional tone. If you’re not in a good spot to talk, say:

“Thanks so much for calling. I’d love to chat, but I’m not in a quiet place. Can we schedule a time to talk later today or tomorrow?”

Being ready makes all the difference. The hiring process doesn’t always follow a script.

Don’t Apply to Every Job at Your Dream Company

We know—you love the mission. But applying to every open role (especially ones that don’t fit your background) can actually work against you.

Instead; focus on the roles where you’re a strong match. Tailor your application; take your time; and build relationships with people inside the company. Quality always beats quantity.

Use AI….But Make Sure It Still Sounds Like You

Yes; tools like ChatGPT are great for drafting and refining your materials. But make sure the final version still reflects your voice. Hiring teams can spot robotic, generic resumes a mile away.

If you wouldn’t say it in an interview, don’t include it in your application.

Keep Your Resume Focused; Not Fluffy

Be clear, concise, and results-oriented. Tailor your resume for each role, and lead with measurable wins.

Quick tip: ask a friend to read your resume and guess what job you're applying for. If they can’t tell; it needs refining.

Be Active Online (Even If You Hate It)

You don’t need to be a content creator, but you do need an up-to-date LinkedIn. Use a headline that clearly describes what you do and what you're looking for. Engage with a few posts each week and make it easy for recruiters to find you.

Every Conversation is a Micro-Interview

From quick DMs to casual coffee chats—these interactions count. Be ready to talk about your experience and goals in a clear, compelling way.

Track every connection. Add your networking conversations to your Monday.com board. Capture who you spoke with; when; and what came out of it. It keeps you organized and helps you build authentic, lasting relationships.

Stay Organized with Tools That Work (We Recommend Monday.com)

Job searching is a process. Treat it like one. Use Monday.com to create a visual, easy-to-update tracker for your applications, interviews, follow-ups, and networking.

Staying organized brings clarity—and makes sure no opportunity slips through the cracks.

Rejection Keeps You Available for the Right Role

It stings. But every “no” clears space for a better “yes.” Rejection doesn’t mean you’re not qualified—it often means the timing, team, or scope wasn’t right.

You want the right fit. And that role needs you to be available when it opens up.

Any Call Could Be a Video Call; Be Ready

“Quick chats” often turn into Zoom or Google Meet calls. Here’s how to stay ready:

  • Check your Wi-Fi;

  • Set up a quiet, clean-looking corner;

  • Dress professionally—at least from the waist up;

  • Download and test the top platforms:

If you’re taking a video call from your phone, stabilize it. Prop it on a shelf, use a stand, or lean it against a book; just avoid making your interviewer seasick.

The job market is tough; but you're tougher. The key is to stay ready, stay human, and stay focused on what you bring to the table.

You’ve got this!!
